Mystic Air Quality Consultants is offering three training items for various levels of dealing with mold in 2009

MOLD REMEDIATION TRAINING

This course is a 3 day program following the CAPA (Connecticut Abatement Professionals Association) Curriculum.  The course is specifically designed for those maintenance and custodial personnel and others in the building trades who will be treating mold damaged building materials (shown not to be lead painted or asbestos containing by previous testing).       $   695 per person

Dates are avialable for groups and as climate conditions require response preparation in 2009 at Mystic Air Quality Consultants Groton training center

MOLD SOLUTIONS FOR SCHOOLS

This is a special course for school personnel addressing their Tools for Schools inspection findings .  Everyone attends Day One, Just Cleaners come Day Two !

2009 Dates:                      February 5 & 6, 2009                 April 8 & 9, 2009                

Day One:  Background data and managing mold.  Troubleshooting and creating solutions for school operational readiness. Personal protective equipment and health effects and respiratory protection requirements and recommendations. Avoiding asbestos containing materials and lead painted surfaces in the school environment. This day is for program administrators, directors or buildings and grounds and heads of maintenance and custodial activities.  This day is also attended by those employees who are going to perform cleaning procedures.

Day Two:   Hands-on training for cleaning surfaces that will stay in place and will not cause disturbance to asbestos containing materials or lead painted surfaces. (For school environments where construction materials have to be removed, the appropriate level of training is the 3 day mold remediation course [above]. Disturbance of asbestos containing materials or lead painted surfaces requires certifications for asbestos abatement or O&M training and lead safe work practices for lead.  See information for those course on this web site under "training").

MANAGING  MOLD SEMINAR

This 4 hour program is expressly designed for those responsible to care for the condition and appearance of buildings and the healthiness of their indoor environment for occupants, residents and the general public.    $ 135 per person

RESERVED FOR ASBESTOS AND LEAD TRAINED ABATEMENT SUPERVISORS AND WORKERS

                         March 4, 2009           May 13, 2009          

Mold abatement training program for one day (8 hours) reviews asbestos and lead engineering controls applicable to mold abatement work practices, identification of mold, adverse health effects from exposure, personal protective equipment, mold specific work procedures for furnishings, carpeting, finishes, walls, ceilings, floors.  Satisfies OSHA Hazard Communication Standard for workers and supervisors engaged in the remediation of microbial contaminated materials. 

Fee per class participant:  $  165     (group rates available)

Training Pre-Requisites                                                                                Accreditation

Mystic Air is required by the conditions of its certification as a training provider to make certain of compliance with the following conditions:

For all MAP asbestos and  CT lead related refresher course sign-ups, registrants must provide Mystic Air with a copy of a current (unexpired) initial or refresher training certificate for the discipline you want refreshed.   Expired training certificates less than one year past expiration date are still recognized for entrance to a refresher class.   Expired training certificates more than one year past expiration date can not be accepted for entrance into a refresher class, as federal and state agencies require individuals with such expired accreditations to register for an initial training program to become accredited again.  

For Asbestos Management Planner initial training, a participant needs to have completed the initial Inspector training and be currently accredited as an Asbestos Inspector.

For Lead Inspectors and for Lead Inspector/Risk Assessors, registrants must only take the course that matches the current designation on their active training certifications and their active certification category on their cards issued by the State of Connecticut.

Educational and Experiential Pre-Requisites                                                 State Licensing & Certification

State of Connecticut Health Department licensing regulations require applicants for Asbestos Project Monitor and Inspector disciplines to hold an Associates or a Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field; while applicants for Asbestos Project Designer and Management Planner disciplines must have a Bachelor's Degree in science or a related field. 

State of Connecticut Health Department certification regulations require the following of individuals applying for certification as a lead abatement supervisor:  either (a) two years experience in building or construction related trades, or  (b) a year experience as a lead abatement worker.

As such, Mystic Air Quality Consultants, Inc. is reluctant to enroll individuals knowingly who will not meet State-based licensing or certification requirements, however, Mystic Air assumes no responsibility for verification of these non-accreditation requirements and is held harmless by graduates who lack such requirements.                           

SPECIAL NOTICE CONCERNING RHODE ISLAND ASBESTOS LICENSING & TRAINING

Effective March 2003, the Rhode Island Department of Health licensing protocols for asbestos disciplines require class participants to submit either an original course completion certificate, or a certified copy of training certificates, during licensing application.  Participants who inform Mystic Air of their intent to apply for an asbestos license in Rhode Island will be given a certified copy of their certificates, in addition to the original; upon payment for the class.

Also

Rhode Island is still party to the CONES agreement.  Mystic Air Quality initial and refresher training for asbestos abatement supervisor and worker, asbestos inspector, management planner, and project designer are all acceptable to the Department for Rhode Island licensing.   Since this training is based on the CONES program rather than the State's own training certification program, Mystic Air's courses are not found on the RI State's published list of accredited training providers.

RI and MA Certification Notice

Mystic Air Quality does not carry either Massachusetts or Rhode Island certification for Operations and Maintenance initial training or refresher training (Rhode Island refers to this certification as 14 hour competent person training and 8 hour annual review; while Massachusetts refers to this level of training an Asbestos Associated Project Worker).
