PLANNING FOR COMPLIANCE WITH NEW STATE LAWS
Fire Suppression Systems and Sprinkler Systems
You can gain invaluable assistance from Mystic Air Quality Consultants when you are planning to comply with current requirements for installing fire suppression and sprinkler systems in your medical or health care facility.
Medical Gases
Retrofitting spaces for sprinkler systems can lead to the need to re-route medical gas lines. Mystic Air can assist you in testing the medical gas systems to make sure they have been re-routed correctly, connected properly, and are serviceable to required standards (oxygen, med gas, vacuum lines, etc).
Indoor Air Quality, Dust and Mold
Construction activities related to placement and retrofitting of spaces to run water lines for sprinklers create diturbances of pasters and sheetrock. Once plaster and sheetrock dust invade your environment of care, there are issues with dust control. Opening wall and ceiling cavities also leads to the proliferation of microbial growth (by entraining mold spores in the air) into occupied areas. Mystic Air can perform baseline dust and mold testing and periodically re-test during your construction activities to evaluate the effectiveness of engineering controls. Negative pressure checks on work enclosures, dust levels in occupied areas These tests give you and your employees and patients protection from respiratory distress and discomfort growing from construction activities. Particular attention will be paid to aspergillus in the air testing for your patients' safety.
Preventing Disturbance to Asbestos and Lead Paint
Various federal and state regulations as well as health care standards prohibit the disturbance of asbestos containing materials and lead painted building components without proper protection to the building environment, occupants, and employees performing the work tasks. Particularized training is also required of employees working on such materials.
In order to minimize the risk of such disturbance environmental laws call for licensed inspectors, such as those employed by Mystic Air Quality, to examine the areas of the building to be impacted by renovation activity, in this case, related to installing fire fighting systems. These inspections identify the asbestos containing materials needing to be abated by trained employees before the renovation of areas begins. Typically there are plasters and sheetrocks, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, adhesives for ceiling tiles or bulletin boards, pipe insulations and duct insulations above ceilings, spray on fireprrofing on or near structural steel beams used to support brackets for fire suppression lines, and roofing materials for penetrations and drains. Mystic Air Quality project designers will stand ready to develop the plan to remove the asbestos materials legally, and Mystic Air project moniotrs can oversee your abatement projects to make sure the asbestos is removed completely and in a safe manner.
Similarly inspectors from Mystic Air Quality use meters to test the content of paint for lead on wall and ceiling surfaces that might be dsiturbed and on structural beams that might support fire suppression lines. Following designs developed by Mystic Air, appropriately trained contractors will prepare the surfaces first so installation of sprinklers and lines do not cause an exposure to lead dust in your health care environment, for your employees or those you serve.
